I couldn't sleep tonight; I usually sleep like a baby. Decided I was going out for a walk...
The first cold nights of fall make me shudder. Fall dries my face out and makes my nose run a bit and I wear a jacket and scarf to fend it off. But it awakens my senses and its like I can almost feel, smell, taste, and for once see the color of fall, at least through my broken eyes. I love the awakened senses.
At times, although it is faint, I get a smell in my nose that reminds me of Texas in the fall. Running miles in the early morning for cross country, late Friday night football games and early Saturday morning competition. Cold dew on my Asics and an even colder bus ride. Watching the warm breath of the southern earth as the steam rises from the swamps. Then a midnight practice and basketball was there.
I find myself not searching for the good old days but struck by the beauty of the past. And it invigorates my soul.
